Visiting Lanzarote in the Canary Islands
The hot holiday destination of Lanzarote, in the Canaries, enjoys temperatures of 20 Celsius all year round. Boasting ninety plus beautiful beaches, some dramatic scenery and a host of attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Flights to Lanzarote take around four hours and are available from all major UK airports. With operators such as easyJet and Monarch offering returns from as little as €150. Whilst accommodation in Lanzarote is of a high standard. With many visitors opting for self catering options, such as Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments.
No visit to the Island of Fire is complete without a tour of the majestic Timanfaya Volcano Park. Where a sea of solid lava covers mile after mile of former farmland. Dotted with colourful volcanic peaks – all of which are now fortunately dormant.
Lanzarote´s volcanoes have had an enormous influence on many aspects of island life. Local farmers for instance use chippings, called picon, to mulch and protect their vines in the La Geria wine region. A method of viniculture entirely unique to Lanzarote. Whilst the textures and colours of the volcanoes feature prominently on the canvases of a famous local artist called César Manrique.
Whose former home and studio in Tahiche – the César Manrique Foundation – is now one of the most popular visitor attractions on the island.
The best beaches on the island can be found at Papagayo – or Parrot in Spanish. Where visitors can explore six different bays, all within easy walking distance of each other.
